Big man AD kept the Lakers afloat in the first half with 16 points on eight of 10 shooting, while controlling the defense at the center and limiting guys like Luka Doncic from bullying their way to a bucket. Both teams were neck-and-neck until the third frame but the Lakers started pulling away after a 7-0 run to extend the advantage.
D’Angelo Russell and James’ hot hands also made it difficult for the Mavs to catch a break in the game. LeBron James meanwhile piled up 25 points, eight boards, and eight assists. Overall, the Lakers had both a good shooting and passing night, spoiling the return of Dallas star Doncic to the court.
After missing three games due to a sprained ankle, Doncic led the Mavs and delivered 33 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists. Dereck Lively also added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Mavs, who have lost five in their last nine matches.
With the victory, the surging Lakers move back to .500 and go up to No. 10 in the stacked Western Conference.
