The star point guard came in clutch for the Knicks, as he scored most of the points in the last stretch of the final quarter, allowing them to have breathing room with 1:26 remaining, 105-97.
The game was close but Brunson just kept the buckets going. He finished with 41 points alongside eight rebounds and eight assists. Julius Randle added 21 points, while Donte DiVincenzo and OG Anunoby helped out with 19 apiece.
The Knicks are now 8-2 since Anunoby was traded from the Raptors.
The struggling Wizards remain at the bottom of the East and drop to 7-33. Jordan Poole paced Washington with 24 points. Marvin Bagley scored a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds, with original starter Daniel Gafford out because of a concussion.
Brunson knew that the Wizards’ record shouldn’t fool them. They had to keep the pace going and stay focused to last the final stretch.
“We stay resilient. Despite their record, they play hard so we just find a way to win.”
