Victor Wembanyama was good as advertised in his first game with the French national team.

Top NBA prospect Victor Wembanyama had an impressive debut with the French senior national team.

The 18-year-old rising star finished with 20 points, including several dunks, in his first game with the Les Bleus. France dominated Lithuania, 90-65, in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 European Qualifiers.

Webmanyama shot 6-of-13 from the floor and a perfect 7-of-7 from the stripe. He also had nine rebounds, an assist, and a steal in 23 minutes of action. had the highest plus-minus on the team with a +25.

"I'm really proud of what we did tonight. We were consistent throughout the game. Our biggest achievement tonight was that we never let them come back and we always had the game in our hands," Wembanyama said after the game.

"I was not nervous at all, just excited in the best way possible. I was really hungry to get that win tonight. All of us had a lot of fun out there."


 

France head coach Vincent Collet praised Wembanyama for his efforts in his national team debut.

"I think Victor entered the game very well because he didn't try to show anything special. He simply was himself, and it's enough for him to dominate the game," said Collet.

France and Lithuania—both looking to secure a slot in the World Cup next year which will be held in Manila—are currently at the top of their group in the qualifiers with a 7-2 record.
