Extra Pass: Nuggets hope to break out of funk vs. Blazers

Can the Blazers rely on their impressive defense to contain the Nuggets?

What’s up with the Denver Nuggets?

The Denver Nuggets have been solid with their offense, averaging 114.8 points per game and sporting an offensive rating of 116.2. They won 14 of their first 21 games but are heading into this matchup with three consecutive losses.

Their most recent loss got people scratching their heads when they got stunned by the Dallas Mavericks on their home court. The Nuggets had the advantage in the opening minutes of the game but lost control to the Mavericks until the end.

Despite the bad game, everyone knows that this ball club can bounce back easily. They have the two-time MVP Nikola Jokic leading the way and Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon having stellar seasons.

What’s up with the Portland Trail Blazers?

Portland has won two games in a row after defeating the Indiana Pacers and the Utah Jazz over the weekend. This modest run for them is a positive sight, especially because they lost three straight games before that.

Against the Jazz, Damian Lillard had 21 markers while Jerami Grant dropped 28 points and Anfernee Simons with 22.

They have momentum on their side right now but if they want to win against the Jokic-led Nuggets, it’s going to be difficult since they’re missing Gary Payton II, Nassir Little, and Keon Johnson.

Prediction

The Nuggets are in a slump because of their recent struggles on defense. It's going to be a fun game between the two but Portland has the homecourt advantage and is the better defensive team.

The Trail Blazers beat the Nuggets in October, 135-110, by limiting Denver’s biggest weapon in Jokic.
