Morant catching momentum for the Grizzlies
Ja Morant scored a game-high 49 points and steered the Memphis Grizzlies to a 129-122 win over the Houston Rockets today. He put on a show with his mid-range jumpers and well-executed pick-and-roll plays with the frontcourt runners. Moreover, he finished the game with five 3-pointers, which helped erase Houston’s huge 16-point lead.
The Grizzlies are at 2-0 right now and it seems that John Konchar and Desmond Bane are also finding their rhythm. However, the team will be facing their toughest opponent yet on a back-to-back, and it might be hard to keep their winning momentum going.
Will they be able to rely on Morant to lead the squad again to keep their record flawless? By the looks of it, the 23-year-old looks very healthy right now and we expect him to prove it more in the upcoming game. Although, they might need to focus more on defense rather than their offense, especially if you have Luka Doncic to contain on the other end.
Dallas looking for their first win
The Dallas Mavericks, who are hosting the Grizzlies at American Airlines Center, are coming off a bad loss against the Phoenix Suns in their first game of the season. They led as high as 17 at halftime but allowed the Suns to get back in the game.
Luka had 35 points, nine rebounds, and six assists, while Christian Wood helped him off the bench with 25 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and a block. They obviously had the upper hand in that game early on but they failed to get everyone on the team involved in the offense, as only the two mentioned players and Spencer Dinwiddie had more than 10 points.
It's heartbreaking to watch the Mavericks lose to the Suns, especially through a comeback win that had everyone on the edge of their seats. But hey, it was their first match of the season. We will see how they adjust in their matchup against the Grizzlies who are starting the season blazing hot.
Prediction
Both teams blew big leads in their season openers but Memphis still came on top to produce a victory. For game predictions, the two teams usually follow each other in the ranking but I can see that Dallas may take advantage of their home court. Memphis is coming off a game in Houston and fatigue might affect its performance on the road. The Mavericks will have fresher legs and the mentality to improve their offense to nail that first win.
