New Maverick Kyrie Irving is expected to make his debut with Dallas tomorrow at 11:00 AM on NBA League Pass.
What’s up with the Dallas Mavericks?
Luka Doncic has a new superstar that will play alongside him to share the magic: Kyrie Irving. The superstar point guard, who at many points throughout the past two seasons, has been in the news more for offcourt stories than on-court.
In this latest shuffle, Irving will try to co-exist with another ball dominant player in Doncic. Dallas gave up a couple of key pieces to get Irving, including a 2027 first-round pick. For the Mavericks, the move was made in the hopes of winning now. For Irving, it’s to go to a place where he is celebrated. It would be interesting to see if that’s enough to keep the magic alive.
What’s up with the Los Angeles Clippers?
The Clippers are quietly one of the best teams to come out of the Western Conference. They hold a 31-26 win-loss record, good for fourth spot just above the Mavs. In their last 10 games, they’ve won eight.
Kawhi Leonard has been on a tear in this stretch, scoring 30 points or more five times. The Clippers are obviously a dangerous squad if and when they’re at full force. With Paul George and Ivica Zubac also clicking in their roles, the Clippers are in a groove that has evaded them for a year due to injuries.
Storyline to watch out for
Kyrie Irving in a new uniform is always something to watch out for. In his Brooklyn Nets debut, he dropped 50 points. Playing alongside Doncic, it’s highly unlikely Irving can do it in his Dallas debut. But a new change of scenery has always been positive for Irving, at least for his first couple of games.
Prediction
The Mavericks and the Clippers have history and are no strangers in going toe-to-toe until the buzzer. Doncic has a new scoring partner in Irving, but the Clippers are in a stretch where the pieces are clicking. Expect another close one that could be decided in the endgame.
