The chase for the 3-point record is over and now it’s time to wonder how many more 3s Steph Curry will knock down.
Two days after he surpassed Ray Allen on the all-time 3-point list in New York, Curry and the Golden State Warriors head to Boston still boasting the NBA’s best record. It may be even a bit serendipitous that Curry plays in Boston a game after he set the record because that was where Allen moved past Reggie Miller a decade ago.
The Warriors take on the Celtics, 7:30 AM live on NBA TV Philippines (available on Smart’s GigaPlay app and Cignal TV).
Golden State owns a 23-5 win-loss card and has won four of its last five games. In the Warriors’ 105-96 win over the Knicks, Curry ended up with 22 points and five triples. The defense also paved the victory as the Knicks were held to just 36.1 percent shooting. Between Curry being crowned the 3-point king, the best record in the league, and the impending comeback of Klay Thompson, things are looking extremely bright for the Dubs.
The same could not be said of the Celtics who have a 14-14 record. Injuries have plagued Boston early in the season but the return of Jaylen Brown is a positive sign. A significant win over the Milwaukee Bucks was also a huge confidence booster especially coming off three straight losses.
Tatum showed off his scoring prowess over the defending champions with 42 points, to go along with five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Brown, after nursing a hamstring injury, logged in 30 minutes and was able to score 19 points.
Last season, the Celtics won their two games over the Warriors. In their meeting last year in April, the two stars – Tatum and Curry – put on a show. Tatum scored 44 points to oust Curry’s 47. The game went down the wire as it became a shootout featuring the league’s best scorers. Will we see another scoring explosion from either player tomorrow?
After scoring 42 points in his last game, it will be interesting to see if Tatum can rise to the occasion once again versus the Warriors.
As for Curry and his squad, the prolonged chase to the record may have hung like a cloud over their heads this past week considering they lost in Philadelphia and squeezed out a win in Indiana. After finally securing the 3-point record, we just might see a more relaxed and more confident Curry moving forward.
