What’s up with the Timberwolves?
When the Minnesota Timberwolves traded away D’Angelo Russell to the Los Angeles Lakers, fans were agitated because DLo had become more productive with his scoring. But their new point guard, Mike Conley, has the potential to become a great fit in Minnesota.
With Conley aboard, the Timberwolves seem to be back in their comfort zone. Kyle Anderson can play off the bench again, Rudy Gobert is once again finding rhythm on the shot release and the boards, and Anthony Edwards is leading the squad with his offense. Let’s not overlook Conley’s 12 points and nine assists in their huge road win against the Dallas Mavericks.
The Timberwolves, who have yet to get Towns on the floor, just took down one of the hottest teams in the NBA. That victory certainly spells good news as Conley looks like he’ll be more and more integrated into that offense.
The upcoming match with the Wizards is going to be an exciting one as we get to see how Conley can become the steady presence for the Timberwolves.
What’s up with the Wizards?
The dust has settled from the NBA Trade Deadline and only three teams, including the Washington Wizards, did not make a move. It was a bit concerning to some but the Wizards look like they have already made their most significant move days before the deadline, trading Rui Hachimura to the Lakers for Kendrick Nunn.
Washington can capitalize on Nunn as a facilitator for the rest of the season. He has the spurt ability to kind of get hot and get going and commands enough attention to open up scoring opportunities for his teammates.
“I think he’s playing aggressive. He’s getting in the paint, which is important for us,” Kristaps Porzingis shared. Nunn can execute pick-and-rolls with Porzingis, find Beal for quick hand-offs, or set up Kyle Kuzma out on the perimeter.
Prediction
Both squads are still adjusting to their new players. The Wizards have had issues this season with injuries that have plagued their stars.
Having Kyle Kuzma, Kristaps Porzingis, and Bradley Beal can do some serious damage to the Timberwolves, but Kuzma will be most likely sidelined due to his ankle problems.
The Timberwolves, meanwhile, won’t have their two bigs in Gobert and Towns which can open the door for Porzingis and Daniel Gafford to attack the paint. Hopefully, Washington can capitalize on the flaws of Minnesota’s shortcomings and get the win.
