Steph Curry led the Golden State Warriors to a Game 6 win over the Boston Celtics to claim their fourth title in eight years.

Scoreboard

Warriors 103, Celtics 90 (GSW wins series, 4-2)

What went down

It was never as close as it seemed. Today was a masterclass in closing out a series on the road.

The Warriors were down early, 14-2, in the first quarter, but it didn't matter. By the second quarter, they were running the Celtics out of their own building in Game 6 of the NBA Finals.

Offensively, the Warriors were as sharp as they had ever been in this eight-year dynasty. Stephen Curry was simmering. Even Draymond Green was making shots.

But Game 6, and ultimately this series, was decided by Golden State’s defensive effort. In the two games Boston won this series, they scored 123 and 116 points. In the last three games, they were limited to 97, 94, and 90 today.

The Warriors were up by as much as 22 today, but Jaylen Brown, Al Horford, and Rob Williams all conspired to get the deficit down to as low as eight points in the fourth quarter.

That’s when Steph Curry put them to bed.

Curry drilled a triple to put them up by 15 with three minutes left. He went to score four more points to seal the deal.

The Warriors climbed the NBA mountaintop for the fourth time in eight years. That’s four rings for their core group of Curry, Green, and Klay Thompson.

A season that started in disaster, ended with a Finals loss for Boston – not a bad outcome for a young roster that tore up the Eastern Conference after being  dead in the water in January. Now, they can look forward to an intact core for next season.

Big-time baller

Curry finally got the one thing missing from his already all-time résumé – a Finals MVP award.

To bring home title No. 4, Curry dropped 34 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists while shooting 12-for-21 from the field and 6-for-11 from deep in Game 6.

For the series, Steph averaged 31.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 5.0 assists. He had a legendary performance in Game 4, dropping 43 in Boston to tie the series.

This was Curry at his peak. He had help but for most of these playoffs, Curry proved to be the best player on the court in every series. That was enough to give the Warriors a title.

What he said

Rob Williams has been playing through a banged-up knee throughout this postseason. Apparently, the Celtics assured him he would be fine this offseason.

Former Boston star Isaiah Thomas had something to say.

Did you see that?

Draymond Green hit a 3 in Game 6.

This was massive, considering that through the first four games, Green had more fouls than points. He was also 0-12 from deep before Game 6.

This was the harbinger for Boston. Even luck wasn’t on their side today.
