Filipino-Americans Jordan Clarkson and Erik Spoelstra reached out to fans to request aid for families affected by Typhoon Odette.

Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson and Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra asked their fans to help out Filipino communities affected by Typhoon Odette (Rai).

“I’m reaching out to our fans because we need your help in supporting our Filipino friends,” said Spoelstra. “Every little bit helps. Any amount gifted will aid relief operations across the country.”

Typhoon Odette, which made its first landfall on Dec. 16, was the strongest typhoon to hit the Philippines this year, damaging the southern and central parts of the country.

It is a tragic calamity that has left a death toll of close to 400, with others still missing, thousands injured, and more than half a million people displaced. The typhoon also came at a disheartening time, just days before Christmas.

“Our hearts go out to all Filipinos affected by Odette,” Clarkson said. “Thank you for supporting our efforts to rebuild communities that need it the most.”
