Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland combined for 44 points and the Cleveland Cavaliers rode a critical finishing kick for a nail-biting 118-117 escape over the Charlotte Hornets to net a 13th straight win Saturday, March 8.

Trailing 104-95 with under six minutes left, Cleveland unleashed a 23-13 closing run to snatch the victory away from the sorry Hornets, overcoming Miles Bridges’ 46-point outburst.

Evan Mobley contributed a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double, while De’Andre Hunter had solid production off the bench with 15 markers, six rebounds, and four dimes for the league-leading Cavaliers.

With yet another win, Cleveland improved to a NBA-best 53-10, two days removed from being the first team to clinch a playoff spot after beating the Miami Heat.

Meanwhile, Jusuf Nurkic put up 12 points and 15 rebounds but Charlotte absorbed a ninth straight defeat to slip to 14-48.

The Cavaliers seek a 14th straight win when they battle the Milwaukee Bucks (36-25), while the Hornets lock horns with the Brooklyn Nets (21-41).
