The Bulls are sticking with continuity heading into the 2023-24 season.

The NBA Season is back! Just like your favorite superhero story, the NBA brings fun, entertainment, and a lot of uncanny subplots to unpack. That’s why NBA.com Philippines decided to preview the new season comic-book style. We pick out fantastic characters that will take the stage and new amazing arcs to watch out for. Bang! Pow! Boom! Let’s go!

What’s their superpower?

What’s the superpower of a team that came from a 46-win season two years ago to a hobbling 40-win Play-In team last season? Are there actually still powers left? This is like Ultraman down bad and his chest blinking red. Fortuantely in every episode, he recovers just in the nick of time and beats the bad guy. Will the Bulls recover and surge forward?

The one thing the Bulls can lean on is familiarity and chemistry. With all the changes in the Eastern Conference this season, the Bulls have a reliable core they can bank on.

What’s their kryptonite?

The Bulls are still missing lead guard Lonzo Ball who will sit out the entire season after undergoing yet another injury. Ball hasn’t played since January of 2022 and there’s no immediate timetable for his return. As the Bulls slog through another season with their core, one can’t help but think about the what-ifs surrounding this squad if they had a star point guard at the helm.

Who is their biggest hero?

Chicago still has its Big Three of Nikola Vucevic, Zach LaVine, and DeMar DeRozan. Those three are still good enough to win you a handful of games. At the same time, these are your League Pass guys who will make you want to watch the Bulls. Between Vucevic’s double-doubles, LaVine’s highlight combustibility, and DeRozan’s clutch gene, you’ll always be inclined to check out what’s happening in Chicago.

Who is their biggest villain?

Despite the star power of the Bulls, we still haven’t seen them reach their potential. Then again, maybe this is their potential. There was a lot of hype surrounding this team since the alignment of their three stars but they don’t have a lot of playoff wins to show for. Mediocrity is the main enemy of this group.

How does their story play out?

A viable target for this group is the Play-In Tournament. Despite having an intact core, they’ll probably lack the firepower to keep up with the big guns of the East.

But don’t be surprised if the front office decides to shake things up to improve the roster. The Bulls need new life injected into them to become promising again.
