The season-long debate is over — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is the 2024-25 NBA Most Valuable Player.
SGA copped the league’s highest individual honor for the first time in his career after leading the OKC Thunder to a historic campaign.
Gilgeous-Alexander received 71 of the possible 100 first-place votes to accumulate 913 points, beating three-time award winner Nikola Jokic (787) of the Denver Nuggets and Giannis Antetokounmpo (470) of the Milwaukee Bucks in a three-man race.
A global media panel of 100 voters selected the winner of the 2024-25 Kia NBA Most Valuable Player Award.

SGA thus became the second MVP recipient from Canada to claim the top individual honors after Steve Nash (2004-05, 2005-06), and joined Russell Westbrook (2016-17) and Kevin Durant (2013-14) as the only OKC players to win the award.
Gilgeous-Alexander logged 32.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.4 assists in 76 games while also taking home the scoring title for the first time in his career.
He also shot 51.9% from the field, a career-high 37.5% from three-point range and league sixth-best 89.8% from the free throw line, while making the most makes from the charity stripes (601) in the regular season.
The 26-year-old also led the league in 20-point (75), 30-point (49), 40-point(13) and 50-point (four) games on top of dropping at least 20 markers in each of his final 72 games. Gilgeous-Alexander was also the only player this season to average at least 1.5 steals and one block.
With SGA leading the way, the Thunder won a franchise record 68 games to claim the league-best record. OKC also won their most home (35) and road (32) wins in franchise history.
They also set a franchise record by winning 15 straight games while gaining a 16-game lead over the Houston Rockets (52-30) to wrest the West top playoff seed.
