Two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash is returning to the Phoenix Suns as a senior adviser, the team announced.

Nash starred for the Suns during two separate stints, winning league MVP honors in 2005 and 2006 and making six of his eight career All-Star appearances with the franchise.

The 51-year-old was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018.

“Steve Nash was an amazing player and exactly what the Phoenix Suns are all about,” team owner Mat Ishbia posted on X, formerly as Twitter.

He added: “His grit, toughness and winning mentality have defined our organization in the past, and I’m so excited to share that Steve is formally joining the Suns as a senior advisor and will help us define our future for years to come.”

Nash was drafted by Phoenix in 1996 and played three seasons before being traded to the Dallas Mavericks.

He returned in 2004 and led the Suns’ fast-paced teams known as the “Seven Seconds of Less” offense squads that became perennial playoff contenders.

After retiring in 2015, Nash spent more than two seasons as head coach of the Brooklyn Nets, compiling a 94-67 record before being dismissed early in the 2022-23 season.

The Suns are coming off a disappointing 36-46 campaign last season and reshaped their roster this offseason, trading two-champion Kevin Durant to Houston and buying out Bradley Beal’s contract while signing longtime franchise star Devin Booker to a new long-term deal.
